THE WORLD IS A BOOK, AND THOSE WHO DO NOT TRAVEL READ ONLY ONE PAGE. - ST. AUGUSTINE
The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical is out of a Carribean dream!
First and foremost, I have to give a HUGE shoutout to the team at Travelocity! We had a few hiccups traveling down to the Dominican Republic because the country received an unexpected amount of rain right before we left, causing flooding in a bunch of areas. We spoke to the customer service team at Travelocity and they helped make the rest of the trip a breeze! I will definitely book through them again.
When we arrived at the airport, we exited from the plane onto the runaway and were transported over to the Customs entrance. We laughed because it wasn't far to just WALK when we got off the plane, but for safety reasons, they prefer to bus you off the runway. The airport had a bit of water on the floor (they have a straw roof!), but the airport staff was working incredibly hard to make sure we could move around without trouble.
Ryan and I purchased our tourist cards online ahead of time ($10 per person - they can be purchased here), so we didn't have to wait in line and were able to move ahead to the Customs agent. The agent was super friendly and efficient, so it wasn't long before we were off to collect our luggage! The airport is updated and easy to navigate overall.
I will say that the transportation area at the airport is CRAZY! We pre-booked transportation to our resort through Travelocity, and I'm SO glad we did! We found a representative quickly, and were boarded onto our van promptly. It wasn't long before we were on our way!
When we arrived at The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical, my jaw literally dropped. GORGEOUS! We were immediately greeted by the concierge and escorted to The Level's Private VIP Lounge. Another staff member checked us in while we refreshed ourselves with a cool washcloth and a welcome drink. They definitely made us feel valued and special!
Ryan and I were both a little speechless as we were escorted to our suite. The grounds of the resort were incredibly lush, colorful, and immaculately kept. The pathways twisted and turned among palm trees, ponds, and flowering bushes, and it felt like a new adventure, restaurant, or pool was around every corner.
The Level Junior Suite we stayed in was spacious and grand. I loved how it was laid out - a separate sink and dressing area, a full bathroom with shower and jetted tub, a bedroom, and a living space with a bar area. I had plenty of closet space to unpack my things (yes, I unpack when I arrive - I like feeling at home!), and the housekeeping staff always kept our room clean and orderly. I ejoyed the towel origami they left on the made bed each day!
Off the living room was a huge balcony that fit a full glass patio table with chairs, and offered peaceful views of the gardens. I usually sat out here for a bit in the mornings and before we went to dinner each day.
Some people don't like a large resort, but we loved it! We never felt bored, or that we saw all there was to see. While they offered trolleys and golf carts to move around the resort quickly, we enjoyed walking to wherever we were headed. It gave us an opportunity to soak in all the different plants, sounds, and ocean-air smells. I loved how everywhere we went, large peacocks were walking by. I've never seen so many peacocks all in one place!
The gorgeous architecture and landscaping doesn't stop when you enter one of the lobbies. The picture below is just one of the stunning walkways that will lead you to a grand lobby area with cabana beds, bars, activity desks, shops, and even a casino.
By staying at The Level, we had access to a private restaurant called the Gabi Club. We had breakfast here most mornings, and for lunch, we ate at either the Barefoot Grill on the private Level beach or at a snack bar near one of the pools. The Barefoot Grill was our favorite, though. How could you NOT love fresh Mahi Mahi, Corn and Bean Salsa, and Carribean Rice while sipping a margarita by the ocean? It's a no-brainer to me!
There were 15 restaurants to choose from, which meant we didn't get to try all of them. I guess I'll have to use this as yet another reason to come back! We tried (and loved!) La Pagoda, Gabi Club, Hacienda, and the American Grill for dinner during our stay. From fresh tortilla soup, to salads and sushi, there are really options for everyone in your party. Room service is also available from 7AM - 11PM each day!
Vacation is for playtime and relaxation, right? Well, there is definitely no shortage of options for both at The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical. First off, the beach is one the nicest we've seen! The smooth, bright white sand makes it easy to walk along the ocean and play in the waves. Our resort had plenty of lounge chairs and shaded huts available, and the waitstaff (shoutout to Junior!) made sure you always had a drink in your hand. We even tried the local Mamajuana, which reminded me vaguely of Jagermeister.
We also spent time relaxing by the pool (there's a whopping 9 onsite!) during our stay. Again, the waitstaff was excellent and always made sure we had what we needed. You can option for a lounge chair in the sun, a seat at the swim up bar, or a cozy spot in a cabana.
The resort also boasts a full fitness center (we got our sweat on!), 8 lighted tennis courts, non-motor water sports, and the YHI Spa. The Palma Real Shopping Center is nearby in case you forget to pack something or just want to get some retail therapy in. The resort can help you arrange off-site excursions also.
In the evenings, you can enjoy live music in one of the lounge areas, watch a live performance at Teatro Caribe, or grab a drink at one of the 14 bars located on the resort. There was even an onsite market set up at night where you could shop local art or buy a cigar. Listening to an acoustic guitarist, sipping a glass of red wine, and letting the warm breeze float through my hair will forever be a memory of mine!
The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical left us feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and impressed! If you are planning a vacation to the Dominican Republic, I highly recommend staying here. I cannot wait for our next visit - we will definitely be back!
